Over a period of four months Hamilton Radio Control Car Club are hosts for the biggest indoor meeting in New Zealand for electric touring cars. They hold the meeting in a large warehouse which has an asphalt surface. The track is a different layout each month with special red and white painted borders helping to define track edging.
Racers arrive there from as early as 6am to set up their cars and to get a little track time. They travel from as far away as Auckland and as far south as Wellington to do battle. Racing finishes around 6pm.
The touring classes which are run under NZRCA rules consist of the following: Stock (540 motor with 1500mAh batteries). Pro stock (3300 batteries and 27 Turn bushed motors), Modified (12Turn motors with 3300 batteries) and Super Touring (Open modified).
Event One saw Scott Brownhill from Hamilton attain the fastest times for all of the classes he entered â“ Pro Stock, Modified and Super Touring. He ran the same car T1FKâ™05 in all the races. He found it quite challenging changing motors and having to compromise speed for Pro Stock by running his belts tighter than normal so he could run the modified classes with the same chassis. It took him 3 club meets before hand to gain the good setup which allowed him to take out all of the classes. Scottâ™s T1FK05 setup is available at Xray online.
Event two Scott was aiming to better the times he recorded last round. He drove with the same setup except he had installed the new 2mm chassis as the track has low grip. This proved a handy upgrade as his fastest lap time was half a second better than anyone elses in super touring and slightly faster in mod. He was aiming for another clean sweep but cold tyres let him down. Without any tyre warmers it took quite some time for tyres to warm up & therefore lost valuable time at the start of races.
